Back-End Training

GoodData back-end training courses are intended for technical staff who will be creating data models, developing ETL (extract-transform-load) processes to load data into the GoodData Agile Data Warehouse (ADS) facility and to GoodData workspaces, and provisioning workspaces and users.

These back-end courses are typically delivered via webinar presentation but can be delivered in person if required. Consulting Services or Success Advisory hours are typically applied to cover the instructor's time spent delivering these courses.

Back-End Training offers the following modules:

Data Modeling Essentials

This course introduces the fundamentals of dimensional data modeling, creating logical data models using CloudConnect Designer, and deploying them to the GoodData cloud platform.

Using a mix of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on exercises, this course covers all the basic knowledge and skills you need to start creating and deploying data structures that can be used effectively by the GoodData platform.

The Data Modeling Essentials course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to Dimensional Data Modeling
  • Data Modeling using CloudConnect Designer
  • Hands-on Exercises (spaced throughout the presentation)

Agile Data Warehouse Service (ADS) Essentials

This course introduces the GoodData Agile Data Warehouse Service (ADS), which can be used to store staging data required by data loading (ETL) processes as well as building a complete data warehouse solution that is capable of feeding data to GoodData workspaces. Practical hands-on exercises are included to walk participants through creating ADS instances, connecting to ADS from SQL Clients, creating ADS data structures, loading data into ADS, and extracting data from ADS. By the end of the course, participants will be able to implement ADS for their GoodData data products.

Advanced Agile Data Warehouse Service (ADS)

This course builds on the Agile Data Warehouse Service Essentials course by providing a more detailed look at the architecture of the GoodData Agile Data Warehouse Service. Practical hands-on exercises are included to walk participants through the application of best practices for projections, physical design, data loading, and performance tuning. By the end of the course, participants will be able to tailor ADS storage structures to the characteristics of their data warehouse and staging data.

Advanced Agile Data Warehouse Service (ADS) course covers the following topics:

  • Architecture Deep Dive
    • Distributed Columnar Database (Tables, Projections, Segmentation)
    • Logical Model vs. Physical Implementation
  • Best Practices
    • Simple Rules for Physical Model Design
    • Simple Rules for Data Modeling
    • Performance Tuning
  • Hands-on Exercises (spaced throughout the presentation)

ETL Essentials Using GoodData Bricks

This course provides an overview of ETL and how to deploy and configure GoodData bricks for downloading source data, loading it into the ADS data warehouse, and applying transformations that prepare the data for loading to GoodData workspaces using the GoodData Automated Data Distribution (ADD) facility.

Advanced Data Modeling

This course builds on the Data Modeling Essentials course and takes participants deeper into the challenges of dimensional modeling for complex data sources. The main focus is best practice for various use cases that are common to large business intelligence projects, with hands-on exercises focused on each use case. By the end of this training course, participants will be able to transform complex data requirements into practical logical data models using CloudConnect Designer.
