By default, Administrators and Editors can edit any user-defined metric, report, or dashboard. Optionally, Administrators can select the Only Admins option to deny Editors permission to edit these objects. FOr details, see User Roles.
Lock a Dashboard and its Contents
When dashboards are locked, the metrics on the report on the dashboard are also locked. If an Administrator removes the dashboard lock, the dashboard can be edited but dashboard metrics and reports remain locked until they are unlocked manually.
The permissions that you specify apply to the entire dashboard. You cannot apply permissions to some dashboard tabs and not others.
- With the dashboard displayed, click the Gear icon and then click Permissions.
- Select Only Admins, and then click Set Permissions.
Now only Administrators can modify the dashboard and all metrics and reports in the dashboard.
Lock Reports and Metrics
When a report is locked, the metrics on the report are also locked. To unlock a metric, you must remove the lock manually.
- Go to the Reports page.
- Select the reports, that you want to change, and then click Permissions.
- In Permission settings, select who can edit the report.
Change Metric Permission Settings
- Go to the Manage page.
- Click Metrics.
- Select the metrics that you want to change, and then click Permissions.
- In Permission settings, select who can edit the metric.
To change permission settings for reports and metrics that are used in a locked dashboard, first unlock the dashboard.
Lock Objects for Powered by GoodData Environments
Edit and visibility restrictions are stored in project templates and in cloned projects.
If you create project templates from a project containing edit restrictions, the restrictions persist when you create a new project from the template.
The project templates are deprecated and will stop working on May 15, 2019. Consider using Life Cycle Management instead (see Managing Projects via Life Cycle Management).
For more information on locking objects via API, see Managing Users and Access Rights.
Metrics, reports, and dashboards retain any edit and visibility restrictions when they are individually exported and then imported into another project.
If you export a dashboard via API, all reports and metrics referenced in the dashboard are included in the export. These referenced objects retain any edit and visibility restrictions.
