Date Attribute Reference

This article lists the date attributes that belong to the date dimension hierarchy.

Each attribute has one or more attribute labels. An attribute label (also known as displayForm) provides a different means of representing an attribute. For example, you can have a date as 23-11-2008 (format: dd-mm-yyyy), 11/23/2008 (format: mm/dd/yyyy), and so on.

Date

Description: Slices data across a chronological set of dates (at the day level of granularity), including date, month, and year values.  Example: 12/23/2012   Labels:

  • mm/dd/yyyy
  • yyyy/dd/mm
  • m/d/yy (no leading zeros)
  • Long (Mon, Jan 1, 2010)
  • dd/mm/yyyy
  • dd-mm-yyyy

Day of Month

Description: Categorizes data by generic day of the month, represented numerically with values D1, D2, D3, …, D31Example: D23   Labels: default (a number from 1 to 31 inclusive)

Day of Quarter

Description: Categorizes data by generic day of the quarter, represented numerically with values D1, D2, D3, …, D92Example: D45   Labels: default (a number from 1 to 92 inclusive)

Day of Week (Mon-Sun)

Description: Categorizes data by generic day of the (EU) week, represented numerically starting with D1 for all Mondays, followed by D2, D3, …, D7Example: D3 (for Wednesday)  Labels:

  • Short (Mon)
  • Long (Monday)
  • Number (1=Monday)

Day of Week (Sun-Sat)

Description: Categorizes data by generic day of the (US) week, represented numerically starting with D1 for all Sundays, followed by D2, D3, …, D7Example: D3 (for Tuesday)  Labels:

  • Short (Sun)
  • Long (Sunday)
  • Number (1=Sunday)

Day of Year

Description: Categorizes data by generic day of the year, represented numerically with values D1, D2, D3, …, D366Example: D286   Labels: default (a number from 1 to 366 inclusive)

Month/Year

Description: Breaks data across a chronological set of months, including month and year values.  Example: January 2010   Labels:

  • Short (Jan 2010)
  • Long (January 2010)
  • Number (1/2010)

Month

Description: Categorizes data by generic month, represented by name or by number out of 12.  Example: January   Labels:

  • Short (Jan)
  • Long (January)
  • Number (M1)
  • M/Q (M1/Q2)

Month of Quarter

Description: Categorizes data by generic month of the quarter, represented numerically with values M1, M2, or M3Example: M1   Labels: Number (a number from 1 to 3 inclusive)

Quarter/Year

Description: Slices data across a chronological set of quarters, including both quarter and year values.  Example: Q1/2010   Labels: US Short

Quarter

Description: Categorizes data by generic quarter of the year, represented numerically with values of Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4Example: Q2   Labels: default (a number from 1 to 4 inclusive)

Week (Mon-Sun)/Year

Description: Slices data across a chronological set of (EU) weeks, including both week and year values.

Examples:

  • September 15, 2008 - September 21, 2008

  • Week #/Year (W1/2010)
  • Week Starting

Week (Mon-Sun)

Description: Categorizes data by generic (EU) week of the year, represented numerically with values W1, W2, W3, …, W53Example: W51   Labels: Number EU (a number from 1 to 53 inclusive)

Week (Mon-Sun) of Qtr

Description: Categorizes data by generic (EU) week of the quarter, represented numerically with values W1, W2, W3, …, W14Example: W10   Labels: Number EU (a number from 1 to 14 inclusive)

Week (Sun-Sat)/Year

Description: Slices data across a chronological set of (US) weeks, including both week and year values.

Examples:

  • W38/2008
  • September 14, 2008 - September 20, 2008

Labels: The labels marked with (Cont.) show both the last and the first week in cases where a week spans the boundary of a quarter or year.

Week (Sun-Sat)

Week (Sun-Sat) of Qtr

Description: Categorizes data by generic (US) week of the quarter, represented numerically with values W1, W2, W3, …, W14Example: W10   Labels: Number US (a number from 1 to 14 inclusive)

Year

Description: Slices data across a chronological set of years.  Example: 2012 Labels: Year
